About

WQNA was a non-commercial student/community volunteer-run station featuring an eclectic mix of music and programs. WQNA was operated by the Capital Area Career Center in Springfield, Illinois. CACC sold the station to Covenant Network Catholic Radio on November 19, 2019.

WQNA went silent that day. The Springfield Community Broadcasters are working hard to bring a replacement back to our city’s FM radio as soon as possible. We’re currently raising funds at support.wqnaradio.org

SJR: WQNA-FM sold to Catholic Radio Group; Signal Goes Silent

From the 11/19/19 SJR:

The sale of Springfield radio station WQNA-FM to a Catholic radio group has been approved.

Capital Area Career Center’s executive council made the move Tuesday and almost immediately pulled the plug on the 250-watt station, which was a cooperative between the CACC and community DJs, and featured an eclectic mix of programming ranging from classic rock to hip-hop to country roots to Motown.

The sale has not been finalized, said CACC director Jodi Ferriell.

The buyer is Covenant Network Catholic Radio, which has a presence in Springfield at 88.9 FM and 104.9 FM.

“I knew (going off the air) might be a quick thing,” said Jim Pemberton, the station’s program director, “but (the immediacy of it), that took the wind out of me.”
